Movies and books rely heavily on a plot that moves with each new page. Not so true with TV, where a 22-minute sitcom focuses more on characters. They want you to love or hate characters. It doesn’t matter which as long as you tune in the next episode.
As you write each chapter, when you’re finished ask yourself – did the chapter advance the plot or at least one of the subplots. Not did it further develop a character, which is important, too. But you must advance the plot to give your reader reason to turn the page.
Otherwise, they may just order a bucket of wings and turn on the TV.
